Convert GIF to PNG
Turn GIF images into lossless PNG images. Everything happens in your browser, so your images never leave your device.
Why convert GIF to PNG?
GIF's 256-colour limit and heavy animated files make it a poor fit for anything beyond simple graphics and short loops. PNG is lossless, supports transparency and opens everywhere, which makes it the safe format for editing, screenshots and graphics.
Transparency is kept
Both GIF and PNG support transparency, so transparent areas carry over without a fill colour.
Animated GIF files
If your GIF is animated, only the first frame is converted and you get a still PNG. Non-animated GIF files convert as normal.
Quality is preserved
GIF and PNG are both lossless, so every pixel carries over exactly. Any size difference comes down to how each format compresses, not to lost detail.
A still image from a GIF
A static GIF converts to PNG with no visible change, and PNG isn't limited to 256 colours if you edit it afterwards. For an animated GIF you get the first frame as a still image, which is handy for thumbnails and previews.

Questions
Can I convert an animated GIF?
Yes, but only the first frame is kept, so you get a still PNG.
Will converting GIF to PNG reduce quality?
No. Both formats are lossless, so every pixel is kept exactly.
Are my GIF images uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs in your browser, on your own device, so your images are never sent to a server. Once the page and converter have loaded, it keeps working even if your connection drops.
