Convert PDF to JPG

Turn the pages of a PDF into JPG files that open in practically any app or device. Everything happens in your browser, so your documents never leave your device.

Why convert PDF to JPG?

A PDF is a document, not an image, so you can't drop its pages into a slide, a post, an image editor or an image upload field. JPG is the format almost everything accepts, and its compression keeps photos small enough to email or upload.

One image per page

Each page of the PDF becomes its own JPG file, named like report-page-2.jpg. When a PDF has several pages you can download them together as a zip.

Pages are rendered as images, so text becomes pixels: it can no longer be selected or searched, and it won't stay sharp if you zoom in a long way.

Where JPG files work

Every browser, operating system, photo app, office suite, print service and upload form accepts JPG. It's the safe default when you don't know what the other side can open.

Whole pages, not embedded pictures

This turns each page into a picture of that page, exactly as it looks. It's the way to post a page on social media, put it in a slide, or upload a document where only images are allowed. It doesn't pull out the individual photos embedded inside the PDF.

Questions

How are PDFs with several pages converted?

Every page becomes a separate JPG file, numbered by page. With more than one page you can download them all at once as a zip.

Will converting PDF to JPG reduce quality?

Each page is rendered as a JPG image. Text and vector graphics become pixels, so they look right at normal viewing size but won't stay sharp if you zoom in far. JPG is also lossy, so raise the quality setting if text looks fuzzy.

Is JPG the same as JPEG?

Yes. JPG and JPEG are the same format; the shorter .jpg extension dates from older versions of Windows that only allowed three-letter extensions. Format Hero accepts both.

Are my PDF documents uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs in your browser, on your own device, so your documents are never sent to a server. Once the page and converter have loaded, it keeps working even if your connection drops.
