Convert PDF to Word

Pull the text out of a PDF into a DOCX file you can edit in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice. It runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.

What you get

The text of each page is read from the PDF and rebuilt as paragraphs in a Word document. It's the quickest way to reuse or edit the wording of a PDF without retyping it. Several PDFs can be converted at once.

What you don't get

This is a text conversion, not a layout copy. Images, columns, tables, fonts and exact positioning aren't recreated, so the DOCX won't look like the PDF. Expect clean paragraphs you can restyle, not a replica.

Scanned PDFs are a different case: if the pages are just pictures of paper, there's no text to extract. Format Hero doesn't do OCR (text recognition), so those PDFs come out empty or nearly empty.

How to tell if your PDF will work

Open it in a PDF reader and try to select a sentence. If you can highlight and copy the words, the text will convert. If the whole page selects as one picture, it's a scan, and you'll need an OCR tool first.

Your files stay on your device

PDFs you want to edit are often contracts, forms and reports you'd rather not hand to a conversion service. The work happens in your browser, so nothing is uploaded and nothing is stored on a server. Once the page has loaded it keeps working offline, and it's free, with no sign-up and no watermark.

Questions

Will the Word document look like my PDF?

No. Only the text and paragraphs are carried over; images, tables, columns and exact formatting aren't recreated. It's meant for editing the words, not for reproducing the design.

Can I convert a scanned PDF to Word?

Not with this tool. A scan has no text layer, only pictures of pages, and Format Hero doesn't do OCR. Run the scan through an OCR tool first, then convert.

Can I edit the DOCX in Google Docs?

Yes. The output is a standard .docx file that opens in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice and Pages.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The text is extracted by your browser on your own device, and the Word file is created there too.
