Convert CSV to JSON

Turn a CSV export into JSON your code can load directly. Parsing happens in your browser, so the data stays on your device.

How it works

The first row of the CSV becomes the keys, and each following row becomes one JSON object in an array. The delimiter is detected, so comma, semicolon and tab-separated files all work, and quoted values containing commas or line breaks are parsed correctly.

Why not split on commas yourself?

Real-world CSV is messier than it looks: quoted fields with commas inside, line breaks within a cell, escaped quotes, a stray BOM at the start of the file. A proper CSV parser handles all of these, so you don't end up with a JSON object that has shifted columns.

Tips

Make sure the header row has unique, non-empty names, because duplicate or blank headers make awkward keys. If the CSV is messy, with blank rows, extra spaces or duplicates, run it through the CSV cleaner first.

Your files stay on your device

Customer lists and exported records are parsed by your browser, so no server ever sees them. The work happens in your browser, so nothing is uploaded and nothing is stored on a server. Once the page has loaded it keeps working offline, and it's free, with no sign-up and no watermark.

Questions

What does the JSON look like?

An array of objects, one per row, with the header row as keys: [{ "name": "Ada", "city": "London" }, …].

Does it handle semicolon-separated files?

Yes. The delimiter is detected automatically, and tab-separated files work too.

Can I convert several CSV files at once?

Yes. Add them all and each one is converted to its own JSON file.
