Convert WebP to GIF
Turn WebP images into GIF images. Everything happens in your browser, so your images never leave your device.
Why convert WebP to GIF?
WebP is great for websites, but plenty of apps, upload forms and print services still won't take it. GIF opens everywhere, from browsers to chat apps, and suits simple graphics with few colours.
GIF transparency is all or nothing
In a GIF every pixel is either fully transparent or fully opaque. Soft edges, glows and shadows in your WebP can come out jagged or with a light halo, so check the result against the background it will sit on.
Animated WebP files
If your WebP is animated, only the first frame is converted and you get a still GIF. Even though GIF can be animated, Format Hero saves still images only, so the animation isn't carried over. Non-animated WebP files convert as normal.
GIF's 256-colour limit
GIF can only show 256 colours in an image, so a WebP with photos, gradients or soft shadows will be reduced to a palette and may show banding or a grainy dithered look. Logos, line art and flat graphics with few colours convert cleanly.

Questions
Can I convert an animated WebP?
Yes, but only the first frame is kept, so you get a still GIF.
Will converting WebP to GIF reduce quality?
It can. GIF is limited to 256 colours, so photos and gradients lose colour detail. Simple graphics with few colours look the same.
Are my WebP images uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs in your browser, on your own device, so your images are never sent to a server. Once the page and converter have loaded, it keeps working even if your connection drops.
