Convert PDF to WebP

Turn the pages of a PDF into WebP images that load faster on the web. Everything happens in your browser, so your documents never leave your device.

Why convert PDF to WebP?

A PDF is a document, not an image, so you can't drop its pages into a slide, a post, an image editor or an image upload field. WebP files are typically 25–35% smaller than JPG at similar quality and can keep transparency, so pages load faster.

One image per page

Each page of the PDF becomes its own WebP file, named like report-page-2.webp. When a PDF has several pages you can download them together as a zip.

Pages are rendered as images, so text becomes pixels: it can no longer be selected or searched, and it won't stay sharp if you zoom in a long way.

The background stays as it is

PDF pages are rendered on their white page background, so the WebP keeps the same solid background. WebP supports transparency, but a converter can't tell which pixels are "background". To get a transparent WebP, remove the background in an editor first.

Questions

How are PDFs with several pages converted?

Every page becomes a separate WebP file, numbered by page. With more than one page you can download them all at once as a zip.

Will converting PDF to WebP reduce quality?

Each page is rendered as a WebP image. Text and vector graphics become pixels, so they look right at normal viewing size but won't stay sharp if you zoom in far. WebP is also lossy, so raise the quality setting if text looks fuzzy.

Can everyone open WebP files?

All current browsers display WebP (Safari since version 14). Windows 11 and macOS open it, and most editors handle it now, though Photoshop only added built-in support in 2022. Older apps and many upload forms still don't.

Are my PDF documents uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs in your browser, on your own device, so your documents are never sent to a server. Once the page and converter have loaded, it keeps working even if your connection drops.
