Convert SVG to WebP

Turn SVG graphics into WebP images that load faster on the web. Everything happens in your browser, so your graphics never leave your device.

Why convert SVG to WebP?

SVG is ideal on the web, but many apps, social networks and upload forms only take pixel images. WebP files are typically 25–35% smaller than JPG at similar quality and can keep transparency, so pages load faster.

From vector shapes to pixels

An SVG describes shapes, so it can be drawn at any size. WebP stores a fixed grid of pixels, so the SVG is rendered at the size declared in the file (its width and height, or its viewBox). Once converted, the image won't scale up cleanly; if you need a bigger WebP, increase the width and height in the SVG first.

SVGs that load external fonts or images may render differently, because the file is drawn on its own. Embedding fonts or converting text to outlines gives reliable results.

Transparency is kept

Both SVG and WebP support transparency, so transparent areas carry over without a fill colour.

Questions

Will converting SVG to WebP reduce quality?

SVG has no fixed resolution, so the WebP is rendered at the size the SVG declares. At that size it looks the same; it just won't scale up cleanly afterwards like the SVG does.

Can everyone open WebP files?

All current browsers display WebP (Safari since version 14). Windows 11 and macOS open it, and most editors handle it now, though Photoshop only added built-in support in 2022. Older apps and many upload forms still don't.

Are my SVG graphics uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs in your browser, on your own device, so your graphics are never sent to a server. Once the page and converter have loaded, it keeps working even if your connection drops.
