Convert GIF to BMP
Turn GIF images into BMP bitmaps for older software. Everything happens in your browser, so your images never leave your device.
Why convert GIF to BMP?
GIF's 256-colour limit and heavy animated files make it a poor fit for anything beyond simple graphics and short loops. BMP is simple and uncompressed, and some older or specialised software won't take anything else.
Transparent areas get a background
BMP has no transparency, so any transparent parts of your GIF are filled with a solid colour. White is the default, and you can pick another colour before converting, for example to match the page or slide the image will sit on. If you need to keep the transparency, convert to PNG or WebP instead.
Animated GIF files
If your GIF is animated, only the first frame is converted and you get a still BMP. Non-animated GIF files convert as normal.
Quality is preserved
GIF and BMP are both lossless, so every pixel carries over exactly. BMP is usually uncompressed, so the file will be noticeably larger than the GIF.

Questions
What happens to transparent areas when I convert GIF to BMP?
BMP can't store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with a background colour. It's white by default, and you can choose any colour before converting.
Can I convert an animated GIF?
Yes, but only the first frame is kept, so you get a still BMP.
Will converting GIF to BMP reduce quality?
No. Both formats are lossless, so every pixel is kept exactly.
Are my GIF images uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs in your browser, on your own device, so your images are never sent to a server. Once the page and converter have loaded, it keeps working even if your connection drops.
